Needs can sometimes be so strong that they creep into our value system because needs give us immediate gratification. Values give us long term gratification. Many people think that money is their number one value and I always ask them, "if you have enough money in the bank right now to live and provide luxury for the next 5 generations, would money still be of such high importance to you?"
Most often than not, the answer is "No". Money to them then, is not a value but a need. The same goes with recognition. Sometimes, our current situation makes us think that recognition is our value. You might want to ask the same question as above.
